Happy New Year

Posted on December 29th, 2008 (0 Comments)

This has definitely been a hopping year for all of us in the pricing business. Only 6 months ago, when oil approached $150 a barrel, the hot button pricing topic was inflation. Now with oil recently dipping to $35 a barrel, inflation isn’t even on the radar screen. Of course, now with the shaky state of the economy, we are all struggling with setting prices in this recessionary environment.

So as New Year’s Eve approaches, I hope that you’ll be able to take some time to relax, reflect on the positive, and gear up for the new year. I’m pleased to say that my new pricing book is on track to be completed at the end of January and I am really happy with the new ideas.

So as we ease into the New Year, I want to highlight a few of my favorite blogs from the past 6 months:

One of my more popular blogs had to do with adopting a Netflix model in the academic textbook industry.

I am always a huge fan of letting your customers choose how much to pay you by offering them choices.

And finally, given this economy, a key pricing strategy that most companies will have to undertake is Discounting with Grace.

Have a safe New Years Eve and a Happy and Healthy New Year!
